Phaselis-Olimpos and Chimeara
On this trip visit to two Lycian sites, Phaselis and Olympos.

Phaselis ( 60 km West of Antalya)
a Site with three natural harbours was founded as a colony of Rhodes in 690 BC.
If we believe the legend, a fisherman living here sold his land for a bread. The city was captured by the Persian after they took Anatolia, and later by Alexander the Great after his defeat over Persia. It was here that Alexander accepted many of the envoys from the cities of Pamphylia, then advanced to Gordion, taking each of the coastal cities one after another. The remains are mainly Roman, like aquaduct, gymnasium and bath, agora. More important perhaps is its marvellous setting.

Olympos ( 85 km west of Antalya)
was established in the Hellenistic age and became one of the six primary members of the Lycian league, with Xanthos as its capital. It has a long history and the city was spread out over both sides of the stream that passed through it, as we still can see. Most important Remains like two sarcophagi, tempel and mosaic house are here. Chimaera mountain was a part of Olympos and is located at the eastern part of the valley, on foot of Mount Olympos ( 2350 meters) in the Antiquity; nowadays Tahtalı dağı mountain. This was the home of the fire-breathing beast, with a front of a lion, the rear of a snake and a middle section of a goat It was was killed by Bellophoron and his flying horse Pegasus, but it flames are still burning, here on this hill ( walk up- and down the hill 80 min)
You need good walking-shoes and swimsuit.

Pamukkale one day ( Antalya-Pamukkale 300km-4hrs)
Early departure ( 7 am) from your hotel to Pamukkales ‘ cotton castle' formed when warm mineral water cascaded over de cliff edge, cooling and depositing its calcium. The calcium formed pools and stalactites. The Romans built a large spa city Hieropolis centred around the sacred pool, which still is a swimming pool in the courtyard of the Pamukkale thermal.
The ruins are sprawled over a wide area and include a Byzantine church, Roman theatre and bath, Martyrium of St Philip the Apostle and a cemetry, extending several kilometers. Hierapolis was a place where the sick came for a miracle cure, but the size of the cemetry suggests the local healers were not always very successful.
*Places of interest near Pamukkale: Aphrodisias ( Denizli 101 km)*
One of Turkey's finest archeological sites. The museum has a fine collection of the famous school of Roman sculptors. They were attracted by the beds of high-grade marble from the babadağı mountain ( 2 km's away)
